    Me and the Moon

Some of you may have heard of Something Corporate, but the majority of you probably haven't. This is suprising to me considering the high quality of music that they produce. On their latest CD, North, Something Corporate transforms from typical punk band to a more mellow, calm sound. No matter what kind of music you are into, I'm sure that you will enjoy the piano driven melodies and smooth lyrics that North provides. Something Corporate sets the tone for the entire CD with the first track, "As You Sleep". If you prefer the more guitar driven, punk rock sound they also bring that on numerous tracks, such as "Only Ashes" and "Space". One of my favorite tracks on the CD is called "Me and the Moon", a song about a disgruntled wife who is unhappy with her marriage and what she does to fix it. (Listen to the song, you'll see what I mean). I think my favorite song though has to be track 6 which is called "Runaway". Its about a guy who would do anything to ensure that he doesn't lose the one thing that he loves most. I can really relate to this song. I am also a big fan of SoCo's first CD which is titled Leaving Through the Window. On this album, most of the songs are the more upbeat, typical punk-rock songs. One song that you may have heard is called "Punk Rock Princess". This song made its way onto the mainstream but never really made it big.

I really like this band. For some reason, their music jist speaks to me and I can totally relate to every lyric that they sing. I highly recommend these CDs to anyone who is a fan of Matchbox Twenty. The two bands seem to have similar styles and I love them both. So check out Something Corporate, I have a link to their website so go check it out.

    Gametime

Hey don't forget about the big game this Saturday, as the Aggies will take on UNM here in Las Cruces. This will be the 95th time these two teams have faced each other. So come out and watch the Aggies destroy the Lobos! The game starts at 6:05. Ags are a 7 point underdog, but last week the Aggies were 14 point underdogs and we came away with a victory. So let's fill up Aggie Memorial Stadium in support of NMSU. Go Aggies!!!!!!!!

Depressed or Down? Try New Found Glory!

This is by far my favorite band. If you are into the pop-punk genre, or even if you are not, this is a band that I highly recommend you give a listen to. Their songs are so uplifting and they send out a good message. If you are ever feeling down or depressed you can put on a New Found Glory CD and everything seems ok. You simply cannot be in a bad mood when you listen to their music. I was luck enough to be able to see them live at Warped Tour this past summer and let me just say that it was the best live show I have ever seen. Their music just makes you want to jump and sing the lyrics as loud as you can. The one thing that New Found Glory has done that I really admire is that they have stuck to their roots. So many bands these days sound completely different from one CD to the next. But listen to New Found Glory's first CD, Nothing Gold Can Stay, and their most recent Catalyst and the styles are exactly the same. New Found Glory is still New Found Glory even after all of these years. They are the same band that I have always loved and I hope that they never change. So go on, listen to NFG and if you like what you hear, go buy some of their CD's and support one of the best bands out there today!

    Victory!!!!!!

Not in our house. Even against a surprising Troy team who last week upset #17 Missouri and the week before beat Marshall, the Aggies remained true to their at home form in a 22-18 win.

The Aggies played solid on both offense and defense, something they had not been able to do in their previous two losses. NMSU led most of the game, but the Trojans scored 11 consecutive fourth quarter points to go up 18-15. It appeared that the Aggies were headed towards another fourth quarter let down, but they put together an 80 yard drive capped off with a seven yard touchdown pass from Buck Pierce to Travis Samuel with 2:05 left in the fourth quarter. That proved to be the difference in the game, as the Aggie defense forced a Troy fumble three plays later. Former Mayfield standout Jeremy Lawson looked impressive, catching three passes for 58 yards and one touchdown. The win brings the Aggies to 1-2 on the year and 1-0 in Sun Belt conference play.

The Aggies take on UNM next week at Aggie Memorial Stadium.

In other action, BYU lost to #1 USC 42-10. Things looked good for BYU early, as the Trojans were held scoreless through the first quarter for the first time in three years. BYU even scored first on a Matt Payne field goal that put the Cougars up 3-0. That was the last time BYU would lead, as USC took control of the game.

The Cougars take on Boise State next week, who beat UTEP 47-31. BYU lost to Boise State last year 50-12.

    Federer: Better Than Sampras?

So what that this guy won three of the four majors this year, the first man to do it since Mats Wilander in 1988. And so what that he made Lleyton Hewitt become the first man since Howard Taylor in 1884 to be double bageled in a U.S. Open final. He's still not better than Peter Sampras, nor is he as good as Peter Sampras. Even though Federer, who beat Hewitt 6-0,7-6(3),6-0, has been dominating the men's tennis game it is too early to make those kind of hasty comparisons.
Now I'm not trying to say that Federer is not an amazing player. I think he is the best player in the world right now and that he has the best all around game than I have seen in a long time. But prior to this year, Federer was a very inconsistent player. Until Wimbledon last year, he had never had the kind of showing in a grand slam that everyone thought he had potential for. After his breakthrough at Wimbledon, he went on to win the Australian open, but then had a disappointing loss in the third round at Roland Garros to Gustavo Kuertan. Then he repeats as Wimbledon champion, coming back from an early deficit after a few rain delays against Andy Roddick. But what happened to Federer at the Tennis Masters in Cincinnati, where he lost to Hrbaty in the first round. Who is Hrbaty? I'd never heard of the guy until then. And what about the Olympics, where Federer lost in the second round to Tomas Berdych of the Czech Republic. Again, who is that? Of course, Federer than capped of the year with a win at the US open, and also locked up the number 1 spot in the INDESIT ATP championship.
I guess all I'm trying to say is that Federer is still too inconsistent to draw comparisons to Sampras. Sampras dominated the men's game for about four years, and if Federer has three more years like this one, than we can start to compare him to the greatest players in the history of the game. But until then, he's just the best tennis player in the world.

    Mischa, Mischa, Mischa!

Here she is. You may know her as Marissa Cooper from the hit show "The O.C.", which, by the way, is a show that I highly recommend. Her real name is Mischa Barton, but who cares about that? Isn't she sooo beautiful? I post this not just for the obvious reason, but because she really reminds me of a girl that I used to date. I'm serious, you put curly hair and light blue eyes on this girl and I have dated her. Actually, I think the girl I dated is better looking, but I guess Mischa will have to suffice for now since my girl is gone. Anyway, I hope you enjoy and watch the O.C. on Fox, it premiers on November 4 at 7:00PM so check it out.

    The College Life

So this is where I'm at in my life right now; New Mexico State University. Now I like college a lot, but I really miss high school. I miss my girlfriend, I miss playing tennis, and I miss all of my really good friends who left for other colleges. Its ironic because when I was in high school, all I wanted to do was graduate, and now that I have I would give anything to be able to go back to the relatively stress free lifestyle that was high school. But I guess that is what life is all about, being able to move on and try new things and have fun with your life while you still can. That's why I bring you this blog. So I'll be keeping you up to date with sports from the two schools that are important in my life, NMSU and BYU, plus other cool stuff. So check back frequently for updates. Peace out!!
